This painting was inspired from plein air sketches done at McKee Botanical Gardens in Vero Beach, Florida.
The Royal Poinciana Tree is not native to Florida.  It was brought into the state many years ago and is
now quite abundant throughout south Florida.  It is also known as Flamboyaunt, the Flame Tree.  When in
full bloom the small fern-like leaves drop and only the flaming red flowers remain.
