An Invitational Plein Air Event held in
McKee Botanical Gardens
in Vero Beach, Florida inspired this painting.
The Royal Poinciana Tree is not native to Florida. It was brought
into the state many years ago and is abundant throughout Miami
and Coconut Grove. The tree is also know as Flamboyaunt or
Flame Tree. When in full bloom the small fern-like leaves drop leaving
the spectacular flaming red blossoms.
